After I talked about why I don’t need a degree to become a graphic designer, I decided it’d be nice to share a few tips on what I did (and still do) to improve myself without the need to take super expensive courses or to have scheduled classes every day at uni.
Learn the basics
Choose the program you are going to use and learn as much as you can about it. I use Adobe Creative Suite since the beginning but you have so many other options out there. This is something that I didn’t do and I’m still suffering the consequences. When you have the background, it’s so much easier to build up.
Take online courses
If you cannot afford expensive and fancy courses, it doesn’t mean you cannot take any courses at all. There are so many online courses that are super cheap or even free. You just need to make a little Google search (below you’ll find some suggestions). If you found some other course that is awesome and affordable, do not hesitate to share it in the comments.
Don’t stop creating
Experience is crucial. You should keep creating and practicing even if you don’t have any clients or specific work to do. Try creating that thing you have had in your mind for so long and make it happen. What’s more, you’ll have amazing projects to add in your portfolio.
